All students please take into account that this is the right time of year to do the cleansing, especially as we move towards autumn and then winter. It will help you eliminate toxins and strengthen your immune system.

Please book telephonically or via email as soon as possible. Once you have booked your place and effected payment further information concerning the cleansing will be forwarded to you.

Such as:

  • Water measurements
  • What to bring with you
  • Healthy eating program that all of us can embrace

It is wonderful to learn early on in life about good colon management and the South African School of Yoga will show you how!

“Hatha yoga is thought by many to include asana and pranayama, in actual fact it is much more specific than this”, says Sri Paramahamsa Satyananda. “There are practices which are called the Hatha Yoga Shatkarmas (or cleansing techniques) which open the door to the immense treasure of energy that remains dormant within each human being.”

Indigestion is actually a deeper problem than most of us realize because problems sprout and grow in the digestive tract and spread from there into other body systems. Anger, tension, depression, frustration lower our functional efficiency level. Swami Satyananda stresses that poor digestion is caused also by stresses and bad living and eating habits especially in the 21st century.

Purification at the school holds importance especially to the beginners that are introduced to the Satyananda system. People who have not practiced before and whose bodies are stiff and blocked are introduced to Hatha Yoga (Shatkarmas – purification process), followed by the uniquely devised Pawanmuktasanas (series of unblocking the pranic energy) & Yoga Nidra (state of inner awareness combined with complete relaxation – Shavasana. The body may sleep but the mind is totally aware and awake. This is taught in a slow, steady and systematic process), respectively for 3 months which has been compiled and designed by Paramahamsa Satyananda which is what makes Satyananda Yoga unique. This also includes short and long water cleansing. Nasal cleansing through the use of a Neti pot will assist the art and skill of Trataka (candle gazing). The purification initiates a complete reversal in the disease process and to eliminate unpleasant symptoms in the body creating a holistic detoxification on all levels. This is taught at the school under the expert guidance and auspices of Swami Kamalavidya Saraswati.

We can start to really live yoga from moment to moment and open ourselves to, and get excited about, the energy that one experiences, that is released through the yogic purification practices. It is so exciting to get in touch with yourself and experience your own transformation through the unblocking of energy, enabling you to feel the expansion of your own consciousness. After three months you will be guided into the progressive beginner’s yoga for the rest of the year.

Paramahamsa Satyananda’s inspirational words are: “To achieve anything in yoga you must start with the basics and diet, food are amongst the essential aspects of our survival. Cleansing enables us to become fully aware of the unconscious aspects of digestion. This is a part of awakening the Manipura Chakra and results in an incredible injection of power, vitality and dynamism into our lives. The solar plexus also known as Manipura Chakra is the centre of energy and physical health.”

Commemorating the Mahasamadhi of Sri Swami Satyananda at the South African School of Yoga

The Maha Samadhi of Sri Swamiji At midnight on the 5th December 2009, Sri Swami Satyananda Saraswati attained the highest state of Maha Samadhi. This is no coincidence, but an indication of auspiciousness. On the 6th December he was given Bhu Samadhi (he was placed into the earth in a seated lotus position) at Rikhiapeeth.  The day and the event of Maha Samadhi was chosen by Sri Swamiji himself and the 5th and 6th days of each month will abound with blessings, spiritual energy and radiance. These days are considered sacred and special pooja’s...

The Magical Neti Pot- Published article

The Magical Neti Pot Sw.Kamalavidya (SA School of Yoga)                                          A magical gem of a pot resembling a “tea pot” in shape, or similar to the pot Aladdin rubbed which to his surprise a genie (servant) appeared. The yoga tradition offers an important device called a ‘neti pot’. An ancient method of cleansing the nostrils or ‘nasal irrigation’ that dates back thousands of years. A genie may not appear when used but boons (benefits) are bestowed upon the user, granting healing potential for the prevention of disease...

Circumambulating Bihar/ Satyananda Yoga Tradition, Bihar India- Published article

Circumambulating Bihar/ Satyananda Yoga Tradition, Bihar India In your body is Mt. Meru, encircled by the seven continents (chakras)…”He alone who knows this is held to be a true yogi”, the Shiva Samhita says. Certain other passages in Indian texts support the concept of Meru as a spiritual rather than a geographical centre (Mt. Kailash). The Maha Bharata describes Meru as a kingdom, of the mind; a heap of effulgence…. “immeasurable and unapproachable by men of manifold sins.” The central subtle channel of psychic energy running up the spinal...
